Open House之你家就是我家

今年家長一開學就對學校的中文班很有意見，先適應家長要求開了一個說明會，請州政府和學區負責duel immersion的人來給家長解惑。其實別的學校從這個中文計劃開始，每兩三個月都會開一個學校和家長雙邊溝通的會，開久了，講來講去都差不多，家長放心了，以後也越來越少開，校長自然就翹着腿涼快。

聽說我們校長從一開始都沒開過，有問題的家長都是個別找校長談，所以一開始的問題沒有好好解決，雪球當然滾越大，（這就是大禹治水“疏通”成功 和鯀治水“防堵”失敗的教訓），所以到今年簡直一發不可收拾，一堆家長告到學區，州政府。難怪我們校長喪失心智狗急跳牆，不回頭看看和收拾自己搞的爛攤子，竟然把責任全都推到今年新來的宇宙超級無敵認真的中文老師身上，把他們罵到尊嚴掃地。（善有善報，惡有惡報，後來時候真的到了～～～這兩個中文老師聖誕節之後都以媽媽身體不好為由，提出辭呈～～）

校長堵不住家長的幽幽之口，當然只好把中文老師擺出來，請家長進來教室看自己的小孩上課的情形 ，就是以家長為觀眾的教學觀摩。因為我們是一年級，所以大部分的家長都來了。不過感謝學生的賣力配合演出，尤其是早上班，每天講話講翻天，我就跟他們威脅利誘加上曉大義，果然當天的“演出”贏得家長們的滿意。

不過也要說明一下，平常老師都有認真地教，大部份學生也都很認真在學，所以也才有“東西”可以演得出來。我們一年級也占一些優勢啦，因為從來沒學過，所以學生會講出一些東西，又加上自己那麼可愛的小孩又唱又跳又說的，哪有家長不滿意自己小孩的。

我還是真的要感謝家長的愛護與支持～～～有他們的支持，才有認真學習的小孩，當然也才會有成功的老師和成功的Program。

校長要我們老師寫信邀請家長。美國人很會講會話，都說你多好多棒（我覺得從小就很習慣只講好話，這邊的小孩對“壞話”的忍受力難以想像的低。例如：A跟正在畫畫的B說：You are not an artist. B就哭了。還有小孩來告狀說：老師，Ｃ說“Ｇ, O, D。” 我在想，哇！這邊的小孩真有教養，連My God! 都算“不是
正面“的話），其實這些都不是重點，後面叫你做事才是重點。

First, I want to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and I hope you enjoy your long weekend.  I want each of you to know that as I reflect on what I am grateful for at this time, YOU are at the top of my list.  Dual Immersion is not an easy job and I am so appreciative of your commitment to helping make this program work for the kids.  There are many obstacles that we are still working through but I know that each of you is doing all you can to make your classroom successful.  I can't say THANK YOU enough.

Second, I hope everyone is aware and remembering that next week November 28 we have our Chinese Open Houses scheduled for our parents.  Morning Chinese classes have an open house from 9-10 am.  Afternoon Chinese classes have an open house from 2-3 pm.  We have run through several options previously but I would like each of my Chinese teachers to either send me your plan for the day or find me Monday and talk with me about it.  I also would like to have the Chinese teachers send out an email to your parents inviting them to the Open House.  I haven't see any invites go out as of yet, but we need to let them know ASAP.

Dear Parents,

Thanks for your coming to parent-teaching conference. I am so grateful for having so many wonderful kids in my class this year. They are learning much faster and better than my last year students. To be honest, it was a kind of hard for me in teaching them at the beginning of the school year. And I know it's much harder for them to be in Chinese class for 3.5 hours everyday. If I were them, I would probably be bored to death.  But they are still learning very hard, even though they talked a lot to each other in English.  And for me, I was used to the interaction with my old students last year. I only remember how happy I was with them everyday and totally forgot we also had hard time at beginning.  Fortunately, now most kids can understand what I am talking about in Chinese and study harder in class. This is the most exciting thing in the world for a teacher, especially for a Chinese teacher alone  here. They are my dearest kids, my family. I enjoy a lot with them everyday.

We enjoy very much in class everyday so we sincerely invite you to our Chinese class. We are going to have a Open House on November 28. Morning Chinese classes have an open house from 9-10 am.  Afternoon Chinese classes have an open house from 2-3 pm. Please come to see how hard our kids are learning.
